Now here’s something a little bit different. The brainchild of luthier Nick Pourfard, Prisma Guitars are handbuilt in San Francisco, California, and their unique and eye-catching looks come from the fact that the guitars are made from wood taken from used and broken skateboards, some of which are donated by local skaters whose decks have reached the end of their useful lives

The Syndicate guitar we have here is one of Prisma’s most striking instruments, and features a double-cut alder body with rock maple ‘bookmatched’ skateboard top – each ply of rock maple is dyed before being pressed together, giving the striking striped effect that adorns the top.

Aside from the unconventional looks, the rest of the guitar is pretty special, too. Under the hood, the McNelly x Prisma Skate Stagger Swagger P-90-style pickups feature the same stripey maple as the top, while the guitar also makes use of top quality parts from the likes of Emerson, TonePros and Graph Tech.

This particular guitar is in stock in the UK at James’ Home Of Tone for £2,450, but if you want it you’d better be quick – due to the nature of the way these guitars are built, every one is slightly different, so once this one’s gone, it’s gone!
