Gibson has released a 40th-anniversary edition of The Paul, the solid walnut-bodied LP model beloved for its understated design.

Staying true to the original 1978 version, this axe features a Vintage Gloss finish that accentuates the tonewood’s grain. The 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard with simple dot inlays also add to the guitar’s restrained aesthetic – even the branding on the headstock is muted.

In terms of electronics, the reissue is loaded with a calibrated set of humbuckers: a 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge that is wound for hotter outputs. These combine to produce a vintage, fat humbucking tone that is shaped by two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a standard LP pickup switch.

Where hardware is concerned, The Paul is fitted with an aluminium Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and Grover tuning machines.

Retails at $1,399. More information at gibson.com.
