The walnut Les Paul makes a return.

Gibson is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Paul with a faithful remake. One of the brand’s more obscure models, the original 1978 axe was Gibson’s attempt at an affordable, unpretentious guitar.

Featuring a similar Vintage Gloss finish to its forebear, this guitar is restrained, yet stylish in aesthetics. It sports a solid walnut body with a rounded walnut neck and a 12-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard with simple dot inlays.

In terms of electronics, the reissue is loaded with a calibrated set of humbuckers: a 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge that are wound for hotter outputs. These combine to produce a vintage, fat humbucking tone that is shaped by two “Volume” knobs, two “Tone” knobs and a standard LP pup switch.

The Paul is also fitted with an aluminium Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and Grover tuning machines.

Retails at $1,399. More information at
