Joyo unleashes the Tauren Overdrive

Joyo has launched the R-01 Tauren Overdrive, the first in its R series of drive pedals.

There’s no mistaking it: This is a no-nonsense overdrive stompbox. According to Joyo, it’ll take you from “a clean boost, transparent overdrive through to warm overdrive/distortion”. Its three-knob system harkens back to the classic Tube Screamer layout: “Volume”, “Gain” and “Tone”.

The pedal also features an LED ambient lighting system that can be toggled to several settings. It seems rather gimmicky, but it could come in handy if you’re stomping around in the dark. If nothing else, the Tauren seems like a decent option for a dedicated practice overdrive unit – especially at its price point.
